Early sign of roses

I woke up in Oakville this morning, amazed that my roses are starting to bloom! It’s about two – three weeks early, although sometimes my Henry Fondas show up a little earlier. This year nearly all of my roses are either blooming or about to bloom.

I discovered my Ore Gold, Valencia, Tamora, Pope John Paul II, Royal Sunset and Lady Banks roses are all blooming. Two weeks from now should be glorious – the height of the blooms, if the weather remains warm during the day between now and then.

There is nothing like the first spring bloom in the garden! Not only are the blooms the most dramatic of the year in terms of simultaneous numbers, but our garden has more color this time of year. Throughout the warm summer months, our colors wash-out to paler yellows and apricots. So I especially enjoy the drama of springtime in our garden.

Stay tuned for next week’s update. I’ll bet our garden will look dramatically different – with roses opened throughout the entire garden.
