Holland’s Keukenhof

My friend Trish sends me all kinds of interesting articles, videos, images – you name it! Yesterday she sent me a wonderful link to My Modern Met with a photographic feast of Holland’s Keukenhof’s tulips.

Screen Shot 2020-05-05 at 5.56.48 PMI wasn’t familiar with this garden, so I looked up a little information about it. Keukenhof, also known as the Garden of Europe is one of the world’s largest flower gardens, situated on 79 acres in the town of Lisse, in the Netherlands. They plant over 7 MILLION flower bulbs every year! Unbelievable… This garden is known for its tulips, but one can also see numerous other flowers, including hyacinths, daffodils, lilies, roses and irises.

Sadly, with Covid-19, the garden was not able to open this year. Imagine planning an opening for a year, planting all of those bulbs and not being able to open. I cannot imagine their disappointment…nor the financial hit the garden will experience.

Dutch landscape photographer, Albert Dros, was granted private access to the garden to capture pictures of their tulips in bloom this year, unfettered by people! How special to have access to this garden with no people. His photos are incredible.

Keukenhof is open for only 8 weeks, from mid-March through mid-May and received 1.5 million visitors in 2019. This is definitely a garden I’ll add to my list of gardens to see.

Enjoy – and thanks so much for sharing this garden with me, Trish!Screen Shot 2020-05-05 at 10.46.44 AM
