Peonies already?!?

I was so focused on getting my beans planted and my peas trellised yesterday that I almost overlooked my first peonies of the season! That would have been a huge miss. I have nearly 100 of these peonies between two plants, with more buds about to open. I can’t believe how show-y and happy these peonies are. Each flower is about 5-6″ in diameter, when open!

I wish I knew the variety of these, but former landscape gardener Roger Warner sourced them for me and put them in the garden before I had a chance to find out what they were.

Lesson learned: never put anything in the ground without knowing the name of the plant – flower, vegetable or fruit! I save all metal rose tags period. I temporarily save plastic plant labels until I’ve had a chance to enter their names into my garden plant list. Who knows when you might want to order another – like these gorgeous peonies?
